introduction
The 2026 Polestar 4 represents the boldest and most striking interpretation of the Swedish brand’s electric SUV coupe concept: it is a vehicle that rejects convention with its windowless rear design, radically lowered roofline and purist approach to high-performance electric driving.
Positioned between the Polestar 2 and the larger Polestar 3, this model combines sculptural presence, a minimalist Scandinavian cabin and cutting-edge technology in a proposal designed for those who want to stand out from the competition without sacrificing practicality or electric autonomy.
For the 2026 model year, Polestar introduced important software updates and mechanical adjustments that completely changed the dynamic character of the vehicle: steering, suspension and throttle response were recalibrated via over-the-air (OTA) updates, correcting deficiencies identified in previous European versions and making the Polestar 4 a truly refined and sporty competitor.
styles
The 2026 Polestar 4 is offered in two main configurations: Long Range Single Motor and Long Range Dual Motor.
Drivetrain
The Polestar 4 Long Range Single Motor features a rear permanent magnet electric motor that produces 272 horsepower and 253 pound-feet of torque, providing rear-wheel drive.
The Long Range Dual Motor version adds a second identical motor to the front axle, creating all-wheel drive and doubling the numbers: 544 horsepower and 506 pound-feet of torque.
Both versions use the same liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 100 kWh (94 kWh usable) in 400-volt architecture with cell-to-pack technology, eliminating intermediate modules for higher energy density.
Interior style
The cabin of the Polestar 4 2026 is characterized by its minimalist Scandinavian design, with high-quality materials including Bio-MicroTech upholstery in Anthracite or Mist as standard and optional chrome-free perforated Bridge of Weir Nappa leather in Zinc or Anthracite tones, meeting strict animal welfare and traceability standards.
The front seats offer 8-way power adjustment (12-way with Plus package) with standard heating, ventilation and optional massage function, as well as exceptional support and an adjustable thigh bolster extension for added comfort on long journeys.
The second row of seats surprises with its spaciousness: generous legroom and headroom for adults thanks to the lack of a rear window, which allows for larger headrests and greater interior height without compromising visibility.
The rear seats feature power recline up to 34 degrees (with Plus package), optional heating, independent climate control via a touchscreen integrated into the rear center console and a lighting environment that compensates for the lack of a rear window and creates a spacious and open feeling thanks to the huge panoramic roof that extends to the second row.
Cargo space offers 18.6 cubic feet behind the second row and expands to 54.2 cubic feet with the rear seats fully folded. It features a height-adjustable floor, an additional underbody compartment and the ability to stack cargo up to the roof without obstructing rear visibility thanks to the digital rearview mirror.
technology
The Polestar 4 2026 features a 15.4-inch landscape-oriented central touchscreen with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels, complemented by a 10.2-inch digital instrument screen and an optional head-up display that projects speed, navigation and assistance directly onto the windshield.
The operating system is Android Automotive OS with Google integrated out of the box, which allows native access to Google Maps with route planning taking into account the battery charge level, Google Assistant for voice control of climate, music and vehicle functions, and Google Play Store for downloading applications directly in the car without having to project the phone.
Connectivity includes wireless Apple CarPlay as standard, while Android Auto will be available later via OTA update, as well as integration with Google Home to control smart home devices from the car or vice versa.
Additional features include a standard 10-speaker audio system, optional 15-speaker Harman Kardon Premium with surround sound, an 8.9-inch rear touchscreen for climate and seat controls (with Plus package), nine planet-themed ambient lighting, wireless charging, multiple USB-C ports, built-in Wi-Fi, 5G connectivity and continuous over-the-air updates that improve features and performance without having to visit the dealer.
Security
The 2026 Polestar 4 comes standard with a full driver assistance system (ADAS), which uses medium-range radar, 11 external cameras, 12 ultrasonic sensors and a driver monitoring camera to constantly monitor the surroundings and the driver’s condition.
Standard features include automatic emergency braking with pedestrian, cyclist and vehicle detection (front and rear), lane departure warning and correction, forward and rear collision warning, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring with steering assist, rear cross traffic alert with brake support, traffic sign recognition with intelligent speed limiter and exit assist that prevents doors from opening when it detects cyclists or approaching vehicles.
On the way
The 2026 Polestar 4 shows that over-the-air (OTA) updates can completely change the character of a vehicle: steering, suspension and throttle response were recalibrated after initial launch, eliminating software flaws and transforming the Polestar 4 into a truly sporty and sophisticated coupe SUV.
The long-range dual-motor version delivers explosive acceleration without sudden jerks or loss of traction, even at full acceleration, while the single-motor 272 horsepower is more than enough for everyday use and is even capable of spinning the rear wheels when power is needed.
The electric steering combines quick turn-in with direct precision, but the tactile sensitivity to the asphalt remains limited regardless of which of the three modes is selected (Standard, Nimble or Firm), with the single motor showing significantly more spontaneous reactions than the dual motor.
The handling is surprisingly agile: the Polestar 4 dives into tight corners with enthusiasm and maintains exemplary composure despite its weight of 2,500 kilograms. Thanks to the adaptive ZF dampers in Nimble mode, it perfectly controls the roll movement of the rear over bumps in the middle of the curve, creating the ideal balance between comfort and sportiness.
The standard physical two-piston brakes struggle during intense dynamic driving without delivering the instant stopping power expected, so the Performance package with four-piston front Brembo calipers is recommended for frequent sporty driving.
The interior remains exceptionally quiet: sound insulation is excellent, eliminating rolling noise, wind and vibrations, while the lack of a rear window is not a problem thanks to the high-resolution digital rearview mirror, which offers a wide, unobstructed view.
Diploma
I recommend the Polestar 4 2026 if you’re looking for a completely different electric SUV coupe that combines distinctive Scandinavian design, cutting-edge software-defined technology and true sporty dynamics – OTA updates transformed this model into a refined and agile competitor with solid range, spacious cabin and impressive driving experience.
It is ideal for drivers who value continuous technological innovation, high-quality sustainable materials, factory-integrated Android Automotive and sufficient everyday usability without sacrificing distinctive character or impressive electrical performance.
