In this screenshot from a video posted on January 10, 2026, people gather at the site after a small plane carrying four passengers and two crew crashed in the Raghunathpali area of Rourkela, Odisha.
The plane of regional airline IndiaOne Air, which was operating a scheduled flight, landed in an open field near Rourkela airport on Saturday.
Accordingly, all passengers and crew were reported safe.
In technical jargon, a forced aircraft landing occurs when an aircraft is unable to continue flight due to an emergency, such as an engine failure or a critical system malfunction. Such landings will be carried out at the nearest suitable airfield or in open areas.
Currently, IndiaOne Air, a scheduled commuter air service provider, operates a fleet of three Cessna Grand C208B aircraft and is based in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
The airline has been providing regional connectivity since 2022, serving destinations in Odisha and Tier 3 cities in neighboring states under the Viability Gap Funding (VGF) support of the Government of Odisha.
According to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, the Cessna Grand C208B aircraft with registration VT-KSS left Bhubaneswar on January 10, 2026 at around 12:25 pm IST while operating flight IOA102 on Bhubaneswar-Rourkela sector.
At 1:14 pm IST, the flight crew reported a Mayday to Rourkela Air Traffic Control (ATC). The aircraft then made an emergency landing in open areas near Kansor at 1:20 pm IST.
“There were four passengers and two crew members on board the aircraft. All are safe and have been taken to a hospital,” the DGCA said in a statement.
“AAIB (Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau) will conduct further investigations.”
For its part, the Odisha state government said in another statement that the district administration reached the spot after the incident and shifted the pilots and passengers to medical facilities in Rourkela.
“The accident has been reported to the DGCA, Ministry of Civil Aviation and all concerned,” the statement said.
“As per the regulations, the airline has to report the details to DGCA and AAIB for further action.”
