AI also helps increase the efficiency of travel portals.
Online travel portals are increasingly using artificial intelligence (AI) to simplify bookings and promote better customer loyalty.
While MakeMyTrip uses AI and customer feedback to help women plan their trips, Cleartrip has started showing flight price trends to help users make booking decisions.
“We are trying to simplify the travel planning process for women by leveraging our rich data and AI,” MakeMyTrip co-founder and group CEO Rajesh Magow said on Monday.
Site security
According to the portal key, clues appear clearly when the platform detects that a woman is making a booking. This includes cues such as staff behavior, site safety and women-specific amenities indicators such as door openers, door chains, full-length mirrors, etc. in hotels. Hotel and intercity bus reviews and ratings provided by female travelers are also highlighted to help women make informed decisions, MakeMyTrip said.
These measures come as travel companies are witnessing growth across various segments. According to the Union Ministry of Tourism, domestic tourism recorded an annual growth rate of 9.9 percent between 2011 and 2024, driven by improved connectivity and development of new hotels. The number of airports in the country has doubled from 74 in 2014 to 163 in 2025. Companies are trying to differentiate themselves while tapping into travel demand.
Online portal Cleartrip said its new feature will ease customers’ fears while booking airline tickets. The feature analyzes whether current prices are lower, typical, or higher than usual based on 30-day price data. The trends can be seen in flights booked 60 days in advance.
Actionable view
“By combining historical data with trend analysis, we give travelers a clear, actionable overview of pricing,” said Manoj Awasthi, Chief Technology and Products Officer, Cleartrip.
AI also helps increase the efficiency of travel portals. “Almost half of our voice support calls are now consistently resolved by voice agents,” said Aloke Bajpai, CEO of ixigo Group, in an investor call after the second quarter. As a result, over 97 percent of calls are answered within two minutes and refunds are issued within three hours on average, he said.
ixigo secured an investment of Rs 1,290 crore from Dutch investor Prosus last October and plans to use 25 per cent of the proceeds for growth initiatives such as developing new AI platforms and expanding its hotel business.
