MacGyver Actor Richard Dean Anderson looks healthy and happy in a rare public appearance, a source exclusively reports Closer He has plenty of offers to return to acting if he wants – although he’s much happier these days focusing on family and charity work while enjoying his retirement.
“He still gets offered guest spots on various shows and if he wanted he could probably get another series like his old mate Tom Selleck did. But Rick just doesn’t seem interested,” the insider explains. “He’s still reading scripts here and there, but nothing has piqued his interest enough to get him to commit.”
“Rick lives on the outskirts of Malibu, right on the beach. He has a large property and a dream home that he built there a few years ago. He is still involved in charity work and occasionally goes to fan conventions to sign autographs because he really loves his fans,” the source reveals.
“But as far as acting goes, he retired in 2013 to focus on raising his daughter Wylie, who was 15 at the time, and he really hasn’t looked back,” the insider reports.
“She’s grown up now and in the business herself and Rick is very supportive of her in everything she does. She’s a producer and director so they’ve talked about working together. If she ever wants him to do something it’ll be a yes, he’s the ultimate loving father and would do anything for her, he’s so proud!” The spring bubbles.
Richard, 75, was last photographed out and about in Malibu in May, smiling at the paparazzi as he got his hair cut. In the same month the Stargate SG-1 The actor appeared at fan conventions in London, England and at the South Texas Comic Con in McAllen, Texas. He visited both with his Stargate SG-1 cast, Michael Shanks.

The Minneapolis, Minnesota native began his television career with the role of Dr. Jeff Webber in the ABC soap opera General Hospital from 1976 to 1981. Richard then starred in the prime time series Emerald Point NAS And Seven brides for seven brothers before taking on the iconic role of the resourceful secret agent MacGyver in 1985. The series ran for seven seasons on CBS until 1992.
Richard reprized the role in several MacGyver TV movies and landed another legendary role as Jack O’Neill Stargate SG-1 from 1997 to 2007. He reprized the role in six episodes of Stargate: Universe in 2009.
Richard’s last television appearance was in a 2013 episode of the ABC comedy Don’t trust the B in Apartment 23 The star plays himself and remains busy with his numerous charity projects.

He is active with the international non-profit marine wildlife conservation organization Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. Richard actively participated in the group’s fundraising efforts and attended the 40th anniversary gala in Beverly Hills in 2017. He happily posed for photos on the red carpet.
The Malibu coastal resident is also a member of the Waterkeeper Alliance, a coalition of more than 170 local community leaders who “take personal responsibility for the health of the waterways and communities they represent.”
In addition to his environmental commitment, Richard is involved with the Challengers Boys and Girls Club, which provides “optimal social development for at-risk youth ages 6 to 17.”
He also supports the USC Pain Center at the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California “to raise awareness of neuropathic and other chronic pain conditions such as reflex sympathetic dystrophy (RSD).”
In another community service project, Richard works with the nonprofit Brain at the UCLA Foundation, which raises money for the UCLA Neuro-Oncology Program’s brain cancer research while raising public awareness of the disease.
