Jeet Adani, Director, Adani Defense & Aerospace
Adani Group’s collaboration with Brazilian aerospace major Embraer is a step towards positioning the industrial conglomerate as a one-stop shop for the aviation sector, said Jeet Adani, director of Adani Defense & Aerospace business area.
In an exclusive interaction, Jeet Adani said the memorandum of understanding with Embraer is aimed at enabling the conglomerate to provide end-to-end aviation solutions.
“This deal and the memorandum of understanding, together with other initiatives within the group, will enable us to become a one-stop shop for airlines, landing, training, maintaining and, in the future, purchasing aircraft,” he said.
He said the group’s focus is on building infrastructure and capacity in line with India’s growing aviation capabilities.
Airport infrastructure
Currently, Adani Group’s interest in the aviation sector extends to airport infrastructure and operations, with the conglomerate managing and developing eight operational airports across India, including Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Lucknow, Jaipur, Guwahati, Thiruvananthapuram, Mangaluru and Hyderabad.
Together, these airports handle a significant portion of the country’s passenger and cargo traffic.
Beyond airport operations, the group has expanded its presence into the aerospace and defense industry through Adani Defense & Aerospace.
This includes activities in aircraft and helicopter programs, unmanned systems, avionics and components, as well as participation in aircraft assembly initiatives and collaborations with global OEMs across the aviation value chain.
Pilot training
In addition, the Group’s aviation portfolio includes maintenance, repair and overhaul services, pilot training and skills development, aftermarket support and related aviation services.
Overall, these initiatives span civil and defense aviation infrastructure, manufacturing, operations and human capital.
“The aviation business is gaining importance. We are present in utilities, which is our largest portfolio, followed by ports and then aviation,” said Jeet Adani.
In line with this strategy, Adani Defense & Aerospace has partnered with Embraer to develop an Indian-made regional transport aircraft or commuter aircraft.
These types of aircraft are typically designed to carry around 50-90 passengers with a range of 500-900 kilometers.
Accordingly, the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two companies focuses on local assembly and deeper indigenization.
In addition to local assembly, the partnership aims to build an integrated regional transport aircraft ecosystem in India, spanning aircraft manufacturing, supply chains, aftermarket services and pilot training.
Additionally, the collaboration is expected to leverage Embraer’s engineering and aircraft manufacturing experience, as well as Adani Defense & Aerospace’s presence in the aviation value chain.
